Sorry for the severe lack of updates since Christmas.  I'm hoping to get back on the ball again in the coming weeks.  For now I'd like take the time to remind everyone of parent-teacher-interviews coming up next Tuesday and Wednesday evening.  Come on out!

Week of November 29

7 L.A.

This week we will be continuing work on our novel projects.  Students should be finished or near finished two assignments by this week.

7 S.S.

The 7.2's will be studying three environmental situations where compromise is a potential solution to the problem.  There will be a journal to go along with this lesson.  We will then be moving on to discussing how humans move and communicate.

The 7.4's will be working on environmental posters alerting people to the consequences of unfettered human "development."  We will then be discussing the situations mentioned above.

There will be a unit test coming up in Social Studies sometime next week.  A review will be provided.

8 S.S.

This week we will be discussing waves of immigration to Canada.  Then students will work on creating a timeline which illustrates these patterns.  Depending on how far we get, we will be writing a journal discussing multiculturalism in Canada.

There will be a unit test coming up after that journal.  A review will be provided.

Week of November 22

L.A. 7

In L.A. we are continuing work on our novel study projects.  The students were to choose the assignments they want to complete.  Each student should have a handout of the assignment if you would like to see what is involved.

S.S. 7

In Social Studies we are continuing to look at the human impact on the environment, specifically on the issue of climate change.  The 7.4's are finishing up An Inconvenient Truth, while the 7.2's are working on their environmental issue posters.

S.S. 8

In grade 8 Social Studies we are talking about immigration to Canada.  We are going to take a Canadian Citizenship Test as a class and then watch a short documentary about a small town in Alberta dealing with large numbers of immigrants.  It is called 24 Days in Brooks.
